Introduction

Howdy!

Well, as a new blogger, I guess I should introduce myself a little. I am a student in his senior year of college, majoring in Marine Biology. I am a republican, Christian, and enjoy all sorts of music. One thing that may surprise a lot of people is, I am a furry. "Woah, wait, your a Christian republican, and a furry? WTF?!?" you may say, but it is true. I feel like I have a connection to otters, and so my fursona is an otter. Woo!

So, as a first post, I feel like I will rant a little on text books. These things are ridiculous. They cost upwards of $120, and are redone into new editions every year or two for some. This is horribly outrageous. During freshman year I bought a chemistry book, new since a new edition was released that year, and spent about 140 I believe. At the end of the year I og to sell it back. Guess what the news I got was.

"We are only accepting a few of these back, and have already reached out quota."

When I asked why, the answer was a new edition is coming out. What. The. Hell. That is ridiculous. Then next year, when I found out what my friend was taking, I asked to see her book. I whipped out my copy, which I was trying to sell for cheap, to see what the differences were. Problem sets. That was pretty much it. No new information the teacher couldn't easily mention in class. Oh, there was some reorganization, as in switching chapters around. Other than that, I couldn't find anything really different.

Oh, as a side note, I still have that damn book sitting on my shelf, hoping to sell it to someone who doesn't want to spend alot. It currently is two editions behind I believe, and still very similar to the current edition. The one thing stopping people from buying this book is it has different problems, which most of the proffesors who teach chemistry at this university don't use. they make their own.

First, how do they justify selling the book for $100+? This is grossly over valuing the information within the book. Second, why the hell do they release a new edition every couple of years, when so little is changed that it would be smarter to issue revisions online.

/rant end.

So, with that out of the way, thanks for putting up with my tiredness fuelled rantings, and hope you continue to watch me, just out of some curiosity.

Peace,
-Eld

P.S. Eldorn is just an internet name I use to keep some anonymity, although alot of my real life friends already know it.... I probably should change that.
